VOCALOID or Piapro MyFigureCollection.net
So this has been a long time coming but since leaving the VOCALOID software, there has been alot of confusion surrounding the origin of Hatsune Miku and the other CRYPTON characters. Now she's not the only synth character or hell even VOCALOID with several "origins" but I'll get into that in a minute.Miku is a Piapro character first and formost. She is also a VOCALOID character but Piapro (and the I guess you can call it derivative Character Vocal Series) is her main origin as well as Rin, Len, Luka, MEIKO, and KAITO. But she's existed as a Piapro since almost the very begining, with the earliest archive of the Piapro website going back to early December 2007, before even Rin and Len came out. However, with no sitewide consensus there is constant changing of Miku and others's origins going back in forth which is pretty annoying to say the least.
Now, as I mentioned before, Miku and co. are not the only characters with this problem, far from it. Luo Tianyi and co. are from a group currently known as "Vsinger". They are VOCALOIDs too but people seem far more comfy labeling them as "Vsinger" around here as opposed to Piapros. GUMI is often advertised as "GUMI from Megpoid" (which I'm guessing refferes too the voicebanks itselves being her origins, as in the character GUMI comes from the voicebanks "Megpoid") which makes sense given she's got a couple text to speech voicebanks that have nothing to do with VOCALOID outside of the character also being one. Lily, another INTERNET Co. vocal was from the fictional band anim.o.v.e and all of her merchandise refers to her as being from that. Tsurumaki Maki was first created as from a fictional band called "Jam Band" used to promote the Music Maker software, as well as a couple phone apps. This was before she would become a VOICEROID, however that is usually what she get's labeled as (with the occasional CeVIO and Synth V). I'm pretty sure the TOKYO6 girls are from a series called the "Otaru Shiokaze High School Project". IA, ONE, and HIPPI (not a vitrual singer but IIRC was originally going to be a VOCALOID) are from -ARIA ON THE PLANETES-. Xingchen is of MEDIUM5 but is the only character that ever became a VOCALOID, with the rest including Xingchen becoming Synthesizer Vs and Xingchen's V4 even going out of print. And you got the characters of the Tohoku Zunko Project which trying to keep them all together is just a goddamn mess due to them all being on a fuck-ton different software.
And then there's the issue of characters that exist on multiple engines, but do not have a specific origin surrounding them. Characters like Yuzuki Yukari, Namine Ritsu, Kasane Teto, Otomachi Una, Kotonoha Akane and Aoi, flower, and countless others spanning across multiple engines but not necessarily having a single cohesive origin. (Ritsu and Teto are VIPPERLOIDs maybe but IDK if that really counts.)
There's also the common rule I guess that items should be labeled as whatever origin the item is being advertised as, however this rule does not seem to be followed as outside of China, for merchandise Miku & co. haven't really been advertised as VOCALOID for years and would either be by "Character Vocal Series", "Piapro", or even "Hatsune Miku series" but entires here would often be changed to VOCALOID anyways, even having NT designed items being changed to VOCALOID at some point that have needed to be reverted back to Piapro due to NT having nothing to do with VOCALOID whatsoever. (See item/1618592 history)
My main point in all of this? Man I just want a straight answer on what these guys should all be listed on cause it's pretty annoying and exhausting seeing it change all the damn time. I heard someone a while back (forget who, think they were a VIB) say they should be mascot characters entry/112762 but I respectfully disagree because that's just too generic. Most of these characters do have some sort of main series and I feel like that would just get lost in the mascot origin (with the exception of Frimomen but he's like, AHS's corporate mascot in the same vain as Amico and the GEICO Gecko Martin so there I do think it fits).
Atleast Vsinger and possibly also MEDIUM5 are likely going to be grandfathered in once VOCLAOID gets completely whitelisted so that's good news.
